Background about the simulation
tamethechangeTame the Change was first developed as a project in a Fall 2015 freshman social justice course at Cabrini University as part of the Catholic Relief Services’ effort to educate about the effects of climate change upon countries in the “Global South.” CRS developed #IAmClimateChange to educate and spur action leading up to the Paris Climate Change Conference and Treaty in 2015.
Pope Francis’s teaching on the environment, Laudato Si, was issued in the summer 2015,
The Cabrini students devised and presented the simulation in a public setting, at Cabrini Day in fall 2015. Cabrini Day is a mission-focused opportunity for campus-wide education. The project won the first-place award at Cabrini Day, and the class donated the winning amount to Catholic Relief Services. Some members of the class joined the CRS Ambassador program and collaborated to expand the program to the one you see here. A grant from CRS and the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities supported the public presentation and website development. We hope that the simulation will be used by other campuses and groups.
Many students collaborated to develop the original simulation. Those who thoroughly revised the original simulation and worked to develop this website are Angelina Miller, Danielle Perez, and Ryan Brong–all CRS Ambassadors.
